The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking a Summer IT Tech to join our team. This position will provide IT support across the organization.

Start Date: To be determined in May/June, and will continue into the summer months.

This position is only available to youth who:

  • are between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

The Applicant: This position will provide day-to-day IT support across LutherCare Communities including:

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide first-level support for team member computer issues (hardware, software, connectivity).
  • Assist users with troubleshooting desktops, laptops, printers, phones, and tablets.
  • Help reset passwords, set up user accounts, and support login/access issues.
  • Record, track, and follow up on IT support requests.

Hardware Setup & Maintenance

  • Assist with setting up new computers, monitors, keyboards, and peripherals.
  • Perform basic hardware checks and cleaning (e.g., cable management, workstation setup).
  • Help prepare and label equipment for deployment to housing sites.

Software Installation & Updates

  • Support installing approved software and updates under supervision.
  • Help maintain software inventory records and license tracking.
  • Assist staff with basic application usage (email, office tools, communication platforms).

Network & System Support

  • Assist with simple network troubleshooting (Wi-Fi connections, printers, shared drives).
  • Help identify and report connectivity issues across sites.
  • Under guidance, support maintaining IT closets, cables, and organized equipment storage.

User Training & Assistance

  • Provide friendly, patient assistance to staff, including those who may have limited technical experience.
  • Help prepare easy-to-follow guides or instructions for common IT tasks.
  • Support small group or one-on-one training for team members on new tools or software.

Cybersecurity Awareness

  • Support team members in reminding them about password safety, phishing prevention, and secure device use.
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting suspicious emails or system alerts.
  • Help maintain clean desk and secure information practices within the office.

Inventory & Asset Tracking

  • Record new equipment arrivals and update asset logs.
  • Tag devices and maintain records of where equipment is deployed across housing sites.
  • Assist with periodic inventory checks and organize storage areas.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Enter support ticket details into IT tracking systems.
  • Help document recurring issues to support future troubleshooting guides.
  • Update technical records, equipment lists, and basic system information.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with network administrators, managers, and team members.
  • Provide respectful, clear communication with staff from corporate and housing sites.
  • Participate in IT meetings, training sessions, and project discussions.

Special Projects

  • Support IT projects such as system upgrades, device rollouts, or data clean-up tasks.
  • Help prepare devices for new team members or temporary workers.
  • Assist in organizing IT resources for audits or security reviews.

Applicants would typically have a grade 12 education and have a valid class 5 driver's license. Enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred, Must have sufficient practical experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position as outlined. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
