The Position:
In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking a professional, organized and self-motivated Graphic Designer to join our Marketing and Communications team.
Start Date: To be determined in May/June, and will continue into the summer months.
This position is only available to youth who:
- are between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
- are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
The Applicant: This position will provide day-to-day reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
1. Branding & Visual Design
- Create visually appealing marketing materials such as brochures, posters, newsletters, banners, and event signage.
- Ensure all designs follow organizational brand guidelines (colors, fonts, logo use).
- Update existing templates to maintain consistency across communication materials.
2. Digital Content Creation
- Design graphics for social media posts, stories, ads, and online campaigns.
- Create visual content for the corporate website (header images, icons, promotional banners).
- Produce simple animations or motion graphics if skilled/appropriate.
3. Photography & Videography Support
- Assist with taking photos or short video clips at events, resident activities, or programs (with permission).
- Edit and retouch photos for use in brochures, newsletters, and social media.
- Help organize and maintain a digital library of photos, videos, and design assets.
4. Print Material & Production
- Prepare print-ready files for external printing companies (bleed, margin, resolution).
- Assist with layout and formatting for annual reports, program booklets, and information packages.
- Coordinate with printers and vendors for quotes, timelines, and proofing (under supervision).
5. Creative Collaboration
- Work with the Communications/Marketing team to brainstorm concepts for campaigns, events, and resident engagement.
- Collaborate to design materials for celebrations, seasonal events, and resident activities.
- Participate in creative meetings and contribute fresh ideas for branding improvements.
6. Accessibility & Inclusivity in Design
- Ensure visual materials are readable and accessible for older adults (e.g., good contrast, clear fonts).
- Adapt designs to meet accessibility and style guidelines where relevant.
- Review materials to ensure clarity for diverse audiences (residents, families, team members, community).
7. Administrative and Project Support
- Maintain organized files, version control, and naming conventions for all design projects.
- Track project timelines and update the marketing calendar with design deliverables.
- Prepare simple reports or presentations showcasing completed design projects if requested.
Applicants would typically have a grade 12 education and have a valid class 5 driver's license. Enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred. Must have sufficient practical experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position as outlined. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
