The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking a professional, organized and self-motivated Communications Specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team.

Start Date: To be determined in May/June, and will continue into the summer months.

This position is only available to youth who:

  • are between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

The Applicant: This position will provide day-to-day reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

1. Internal Communications

  • Draft internal newsletters, team member announcements, and organizational updates under supervision.
  • Assist in creating clear, supportive communications for team members, residents, and families.
  • Maintain internal communication channels (email lists, bulletin boards, intranet posting).
  • Gather stories from different housing sites to highlight team member achievements and resident milestones.

2. External Communications & Public Relations

  • Support development of press releases, media advisories, and community announcements.
  • Help maintain positive relationships with community partners, local media, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare content for community outreach materials, annual reports, and impact stories.

3. Digital Communications

  • Assist with updating website content (news, event information, resident stories).
  • Prepare and schedule social media content that showcases programs, achievements, and community life.
  • Monitor social media interactions and prepare summary reports on engagement trends.

4. Writing & Content Development

  • Write clear, accessible content for newsletters, brochures, blog posts, and family updates.
  • Interview residents, team members, or volunteers to capture stories that strengthen community engagement.
  • Assist in editing and proofreading communication materials to ensure accuracy and consistency.

5. Visual Communication

  • Support design of communication assets using Canva or similar tools (posters, graphics, infographics).
  • Help ensure all materials follow brand guidelines and accessibility standards.
  • Maintain a well-organized library of photos, videos, and branded templates.

6. Event Support

  • Assist with planning and promoting internal and external events (open houses, team member appreciation, awareness campaigns).
  • Help create event communication materials (invitations, banners, social posts).
  • Provide on-site support such as photography, setup, and post-event summaries.

7. Research & Reporting

  • Conduct research on communication best practices in senior housing and community care.
  • Monitor engagement metrics from newsletters, social media, and campaigns.
  • Prepare simple analytics dashboards and summaries for the Communications Manager.

8. Administrative & Coordination Tasks

  • Maintain communication calendars, campaign schedules, and contact lists.
  • Support in preparing presentation materials.
  • Assist with documenting communication processes and maintaining version control of materials.

Applicants would typically have a grade 12 education and have a valid class 5 driver's license. Enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred. Must have sufficient practical experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position as outlined. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
