The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, we are seeking an Assistant Cook to join our team. 

The Assistant Cook is responsible for all preparation, cooking and baking duties required to prepare food for service. Cleanliness also needs to be maintained as well as proper storage of all ordered and leftover products. The Assistant Cook is responsible for all Head Cook duties in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor/Cook.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours a week

The Applicants:

Applicants would typically qualify for this position with a grade 10 (Grade 12 preferred) and a Food Safe Certificate. Applicants are required to have WHMIS training within three months of employment. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Knowledge of the principles of food including the preparation and portioning of food
  • Knowledge of food service equipment and the use of the same
  • Follow standardized recipes, adjust recipes, weight and/or measure ingredients accurately.

 Experience:

  • Experience in food preparation
  • Experience cooking in a commercial kitchen (preferred)
  • Experience working with seniors an asset
