Primary Focus
The Wellness & Footcare Nurse is responsible for the overall development, coordination, and implementation of training programs, foot care, and wellness services within Home Support Services in LutherCare Communities (LCC). This position will assist the service area to achieve organizational priorities and goals. Reporting to the Home Help Manager (the Manager), the Wellness & Footcare Nurse supports strategy by executing divisional plans, including cascading, monitoring, reporting, and course correction. Wellness & Footcare Nurse is responsible for ensuring that the quality of the Foot Care services to residents in our facilities setting is compliant with legislation and standards of practice The Wellness & Footcare Nurse demonstrates service area expertise to enable an innovative and positive working climate in a resident-first culture. The Wellness & Footcare Nurse works within the service area and cross-functionally to support operations in the organization.
Position Functions
- Provide a professional wellness clinic, including health education to LutherCare Communities sites
- Provide a professional foot care program to LutherCare Communities sites
- Performs basic foot care procedures, such as cleaning the feet, clipping nails, and removing calluses with a pumice stone
- Conducting foot exams to assess the condition of the resident’s feet—including checking for signs of infection and taking measurements
- Maintaining accurate records of patient treatments, including information about medication and special devices used to monitor blood glucose levels or blood pressure
- Teaching residents who have diabetes how to monitor their feet for signs of infection, sores, blisters, redness, or swelling
- Providing specialized treatment options for residents with diabetes who have wounds that have not responded to other methods of treatment
- Instructing residents on proper care of their feet, including how to trim toenails and use moisturizers
- Providing education about how to prevent problems related to the feet, including how to avoid infection and trauma and how to properly fit shoes
- Encourage participation in foot care clinics through actively pursuing professional relationships with residents
- Encourage participation in wellness education and clinics through actively pursuing professional relationships with clients
- Develops promotion and publicity plans for wellness and fitness programs
- Monitor billing and scheduling systems
- Complete all billing and invoicing as necessary
- Develop literature and brochures for services
- Coordinate and/or conduct presentations related to wellness at all housing sites
- Maintain good relationships with various community programs
- Complete scheduling and all administrative duties as required
- Complete and update all necessary certifications and continued training as necessary
- Complete all other job-related tasks as assigned by the Manager
- Abide by policies and procedures of LutherCare Communities
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Diploma in Practical Nursing
- Registered and in good standing with the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nursing (SALPN) or College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- Must have a Basic or Advanced Footcare Certificate, preferably an Advanced Footcare Certification
- Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License
- Access to a vehicle and insurance
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years experience in community health and gerontology nursing
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques including courses or experience in the care of the aging population is desirable
- Two years of experience in wellness program development
