 The Position:

The Cook is an integral member of the LutherCare Communities (LCC), partnering with other leaders to achieve organizational priorities and goals. Reporting to the Site Manager, the Cook is responsible for assisting with the development of the menu, and any preparation, cooking, and baking duties required to prepare food for service and maintain organization and cleanliness. The Cook also maintained proper storage of all ordered and leftover products. The Cook demonstrates strong leadership to enable an innovative and positive working climate and a resident-first culture. The Cook works within the division and cross-functionally to support operations in the organization.

   The Applicants:

Applicants would typically qualify for this position with a grade 12, Food Safe Certificate and cooking experience in a commercial food service establishment.  Journeyman Cook qualifications are preferred. Applicants are required to have WHMIS training within three months of employment. Applicants must have had experience with inventory control and menu development. The ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently is required.

 Qualifications

Education:

  • Grade 10, Grade 12 preferred
  • Journeyman Cook qualifications preferred
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • WHMIS training required within three months of employment

Experience: 

  • Cooking experience in a commercial foodservice establishment or a similar experience
  • Experience with inventory control and menu development
  • Experience working with seniors as an asset
  • 2+ years’ experience supporting retirement living
  • Experience working with First Nation and Metis communities
  • Experience in the health (Home) care sector would be considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Is committed to a resident-first culture
  • Knowledge of the principles of food service including the preparation and portioning of food
  • Knowledge of foodservice equipment and proper use of the same
  • Follow standardized recipes, adjust recipes, weigh and/or measure ingredients accurately
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English fluently
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Candidate must be willing to learn, multitask, be creative and accept criticism
  • Commitment to quality, teamwork, and cleanliness will be a criteria
