The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking (4) Summer Activity Workers to join our team. These positions will support long-term care residents in their pursuit of leisure activities and will provide 1:1 visitation support to allow safe residents and family member/friend visitation in both virtual and in-person settings following all COVID-19 Safety Protocols.

This position is only available to youth who:

  • is between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

The Applicant: These positions will provide day-to-day support to Luther Special Care Home that include:

  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living such as eating assistance and range of motion
  • Help support recreation programs as well as assist residents to and from planned programs
  • Ensure supplies are available for activities planned
  • Create posters and informational bulletins
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Staff and Volunteer Development

Applicants would typically have a grade 12 education and have a valid class 5 driver's license. Enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred. Must have sufficient practical experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position and be physically able to perform duties outlined. Experience working with seniors and adults with dementia is an asset. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and the ability to effectively deal with seniors. Applicants must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
