Summer Building Maintenance Worker (Luther Special Care Home)

Our Team Members provide caring services to residents and clients throughout Saskatchewan in our Seniors Independent Living Communities, Intermediate Care Homes, Long-Term Care, Group Homes for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, and programs like the Seniors Day Program and the Luther Seniors Centre. 

The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking Summer Maintenance Workers to join our team. The Summer Maintenance Worker provides seasonal care to grounds, parking lots, building access areas and related equipment.

This position is only available to youth who:

• is between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
• is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
• is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

The Applicant: This position will provide day-to-day support to Luther Special Care Home that include:

• Perform minor facility maintenance duties and landscaping
• Perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, etc.
• Maintain yard and lawns, cutting grass, weeding, planting and maintaining flower beds
• Mow the lawns, prune the bushes and trees, edge the walkways and give the grounds a manicured look
• Take on special landscaping or planting projects as deemed necessary by the property manager
• Collaborate with maintenance team to make sure the grounds and the building are always properly cared for
• Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on the lawn care equipment and tools

Preference will be given to those enrolled in a secondary school or post-secondary trades, maintenance or building operator program or equivalent, a valid class 5 driver's license will be required. Sufficient practical experience to perform the duties is required and experience with yard maintenance and working with seniors is an asset. This position will be required to use gardening equipment such as: ride on lawn mower, rototiller, whipper snipper, leaf blower etc. Applicants must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently, have knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of hand/power tools and grounds keeping equipment as well as basic knowledge of carpentry. Applicants must be physically able to perform duties.
